Today was a really special day for my husband & our family. We are so proud of him & everything he does in his job & in his daily life as husband & dad. There is so much I could tell you abt him & how wonderful he is but honestly, it's one of those things for which I can't quite find adequate words. Congratulations on your promotion. We love you.

I KNOW! The ISO again! But honestly, I only took abt 10 pictures & I was trying to rush. I didn't even really look at my settings.

  1. Ahh...being a Navy brat, the military promotions always make me tear up. They are just so moving and wonderful to watch. Congrats to your hubby! And great shot of his uniform!

  3. I really love this picture. It is beautiful! Maybe you can hide the noise with a texture?

  5. Congrats to your husband! (and to you, in a non-wearing-your-husband's-rank kind of way :) We all know wives play a big part in supporting the guys to allow them to advance in their careers!)
Very cool composition. I don't mind the noise :) With the light/wb it almost looks vintage processed. If you need someone to nag you to check your settings before shooting I know a certain mutual friend of ours who is fabulous at that sort of thing :)
The TJs salad is pre-assemebled. I think they just blanched the brussels sprouts. They're the nice little ones... don't know if you have a choice of size over there :)

  8. Congratulations Ryan on your promotion. Trisha, don't worry about the settings too much. Your crafting wonderful images that tell a story, that's the important part. Though if you want some advice: (ISO 4000 f2.8 1/400) You can lower your shutter speed to 1/125 and even 1/80th without camera shake, unless your jacked on caffeine. Your ISO could then be dropped down to 1600 or maybe even 800 which would decrease the amount of noise.

Overall, I see nothing wrong with the photograph.

  12. Thanks so much for all of your awesome comments & suggestions. They all help so much.
@ Megan, Yes I know who you mean. She does like to nag doesn't she. :)) I was able to double check a couple of things w her, WB, etc but the husband wasn't really in the mood to stand there too long anyway while I fiddled w my settings. ;) Also, I figured the bs were blanched. But no, we only have the big ones here & they usually aren't at their peak of freshness... I'll see what I can come up with!
@ Jason, thanks so much. Your comments always mean a lot to me. I think bc my d3000 didn't have much ISO range, now that I have the d90 I automatically go to the moon for the ISO. I need to remember to start small again.
As fot the composition I was trying to channel a shot my sister in law took. http://dahughesohana.blogspot.com/2010/12/i-learned.html
She is a constant source of inspiration for me.

  13. I LOVE the grain on this photo. It softens the photo in a good way, an emotional way and I get this feeling of pride when I look at it. It's beautiful and you can tell how much feeling is in that picture. Don't change a thing! Congrats to your hubby, you must be so proud of him!
