I couldn't post my picture yesterday bc I was having some problems w Flickr & Lightroom but it's all worked out now. I can assure you, this picture was taken yesterday as I'm still sitting in my pajamas & only two kids have eaten breakfast.
I love natural light in my house. Chances are, if it's dark outside it's dark in here too. I get a lot of teasing for that. ;) So anyway, I set up this shot w the baby to get him in the little bit of natural light we had in the house. After a second look, it appears pretty grainy. Is that just what I must deal w in low natural light settings? Could anyone give me some tips for reducing noise in LR?
ISO 6400 f2.8 1/4000
This was also taken w the zoom I'm test driving so I can't go lower (number) w my aperture. I know my shutter speed was maxed out but...??
I not familiar with LR, however with all the natural light, did you need to have your ISO at 6400? and with your son sitting nicely did you need 1/4000? I'm not sure.
ReplyDeletePerhaps, lowering your ISO and raising your speed would have helped.
I don't see an over abundance of noise, and really like the soft look of the photograph.
I agree with Trish, especially about the softness of the photo! It's a beautiful shot. I'd love to have that sunlight coming in my house these days.
ReplyDeleteI dont notice the noise either. of course I view it on my phone usually too. The elements I DO see I like very much! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Trish. You could try lowering your ISO, which would help to reduce the noise on your camera. Plus you wouldn't necessarily need as high of a ss. However, I do love the softness to the picture. And like Branson, I don't think the noise is that much of an issue...it just seems calm and sweet! Great capture!
ReplyDeleteI like how natural it looks, I see just a little bit of grain but only because you pointed it out and I looked for it. lol. Great shot! :)
ReplyDeleteAll the advice you've gotten would be the same from me. But I really enjoy this photo as well. The grain does not bother me one bit and adds to the softness to the picture. I know there is a noise reduction slider in LR. I have only used it for 2 days so I don't understand it, but it's in the develop module (I think that's right?).
ReplyDeleteYou probably shouldn't need your ISO up at 6400... however, your little guy is a bit underexposed. Depending on how you were metering, your camera may have been telling you that the scene was overexposed, when in actuality, your primary subject was underexposed. I'd suggest spot metering (off of your sons cheek) in this situation and start w/ settings of f/ 2.8 ss 1/250 ISO 800 and adjust the ss up or down as needed. It's personal preference, but I wouldn't be too worried about blowing the highlights :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a panel in the LR "develop" module for noise reduction... it is under "Detail". You can play with the sliders until you get a result you like.
Such a sweet shot :)
Yes, I think you are right. My ISO was way too high I think bc I was facing the window, when I'd meter it would tell me it was under. I was trying my best to meter off his face but darn babies, they just move too much. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this photo! I have issue with ISO too. I think everyone does and will. regardless but I didnt see anything until I looked looked... getting the perfect shot with little ones is hard for sure. Why they have to move all the time bets me ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, Trisha :O) First off, you know I made a video of how to reduce noise in Lightroom :O) I love how you say you love natural light, yet your blinds are never open he he!! You could have bumped your shutter speed to down down down and then you could have lowered your ISO. I am your real life friend so I can give you a hard time :O)
ReplyDeleteI love this shot! Great perspective.
ReplyDeletehehe Courtney made LR tutorial for noise reduction a while ago! Also, you can also just turn the pic b&w and it would look really nice.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by your shots :) I never use my zoom because I always feel like I need to be so far away from Will. But I never thought about the lowered aperture. That makes me want to try it.
ReplyDeleteSorry I don't have more input on the settings. I'm still learning myself.
Is he checking out the shadows? How sweet!
Loove this. So sweet.
