Put on a little make up, make up...

I wasn't able to post this last night. Computer problems again. Ah, I'm so tech savvy. Anyway, I snapped this last night to begin a Monday Me. I'm putting my face on bf going out to play bunko w the gals. It was so quiet & I was so completely alone I took the opportunity to take abt... 100 shots. I know the focal point pretty much missed my face but it's a start. I posted in b&w bc I thought it added something to it, even tho I have no clue how to convert (properly to b&w). How bold! Please critique but please, don't crush me. I have feelings.

  1. The focus fell on your hand but that's okay. It's hard to get a shot of yourself and let the camera do the focusing. I think you did a great job. I agree that the b&w definitely added to your picture. I can feel that you were having a moment of quietness.

  2. Love the composition! Pretty lady :) I like the quietness that B&W adds to this image. You could push the conversion a little further... you really want to see white whites and black blacks. Something to consider when converting is if you have a range of tonal values in an image. In this one, for example, you have a lot of midtones (skin and wall behind you) but you could selectively burn (pull down the exposure with the adjustment brush in LR) your hair and shirt to add some more dark tonal values.
I'm jealous of your girl's night... I need to find me one of those :)

  3. I kind of like that your face is not in sharp focus... It adds to that feel of watching someone in a mirror. And I usually like a more distinct b/w but again I think the photo the way it is tells a story :) I did a self portrait too... They are not easy!

  4. This picture is great...it makes me feel like I am peeking around the corner to find you putting your make-up on. Great job getting in front of the camera. I agree with Megan, I think you could make the blacks a bit darker. Loving the black and white idea!!!

  5. Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I did more editing on it in LR & found it did look better when I added more black. Megan - you are some kind of photography wizard! I would love for you to call me up & walk me thru some editing. :)) I'm still trying to understand some of what you said!

  9. Very cool! I really like that you took this of yourself and I love that you added a bit of the edge of the mirror into the shot. It helps tell the story of what you are doing! Great job! And, I have NO Idea about any editing. Mine are always SOOC so glad to read some of these other suggestions too.
